Define morbidity and mortality and distinguish between them and have a general understanding of which diseases/disorders cause the greatest mortality and morbidity of canadians. Understand and be able to define some of the commonly used to terms to describe various aspects of disease (e. g. signs, symptoms, etiology, pathogenesis, manifestations, sequelae, prognosis). Discuss broadly the causes of disease and the categories under which they can be considered. Define idiopathic and iatrogenic causes of disease and give an example of each. Derived from the greek pathos meaning disease" or suffering" and logia meaning "study" it is literally the study of suffering and illness. In particular, pathology is the study of the structural and functional changes in cells, tissues, and organs of the body that cause or are caused by disease.
