Dysplasia: alteration in size, shape and organization of the cellular components of a tissue. Features: variation in shape and size of cells; enlargement, irregularity and hyperchromatism of the nuclei; disordered arrangement of the cell. Neoplasm is an abnormal mass of tissue, the growth of which exceeds and is uncoordinated with that of normal tissue and persists in the same excessive manner after cessation of the stimulus which evoked the change. Neoplasms are classified according to tissue of origin and nature of the tumour-whether benign or malignant. Benign tumours: in general, these tumours have suffix oma following tissue type. Some are named by architectural patterns, whereas others by tissue type. Cystadenoma: an adenoma with cystic areas (fluid-filled spaces) Malignant tumour of mesenchymal origin are called sarcoma. Malignant tumours of epithelial origin are called carcinoma. These are called mixed tumours; tey can be either benign or malignant. Teratoma: consists of 2 or more germ layers (ovary and testes)
