If we"re not sure who it is, we can take family dna for comparison: facial reconstruction & superimposition. Place skin over skull to try to recreate: fingerprint. Need preserved; decomposition or burnt fingerprints may not be an option. Can still get fingerprints without epidermis (mirror image of fingerprint a layer under it) Look for repository for fingerprint data: dental. Need to have an idea who it is to look for dental records. Some records are not accurate, not easily accessible, deleted. Usually normal dentist who is familiar with forensics. Dentures can also be used bc it"s distinct to each person: radiographic. Device often have serial number that can be tracked. Previous medical interventions can be used i. e. shape of frontal sinus, fractures. Can also look for congenital anomalies for identification: skeletal.
