Material principles of explanation the stuf in an item is its material cause. Formal principles of explanation the form explains what something is. Eicient cause a cause that makes something happen. Aristotle thinks that everything has a purpose even things that are. Final cause end or purpose not made by human, even things that don"t seem to have been made at all. For aristotle everything has a inal cause, purpose or aim. Aristotle thinks there is only 4 types of matter (stuf) Everything is made of mixtures of earth, water, ire and air. The purpose of it, it"s end, is to get to the center of the universe. If you throw a ball up to the center of the air it wont keep going.
