Audio recording started: 9:37 am thursday, october 20, 2016. S knows that p iff i. ii. iii. Justification: gives the right to be confidence in your belief. Politically allow to believe is not the same as epistemic justification. Ex. you can believe herbs heal you, but epistemic justification requires evidence. Foundationalism: all our beliefs are ultimately justified on the basis of basic justified beliefs. Basic justified beliefs: we argue from them, not for them. Coherentism: what justifies beliefs is the way they fit together, the fact that they cohere together. Knowledge is more like a large web of beliefs. Infinitism: each belief is justified by a cascade of increasingly basic beliefs. A posteriori (experiential): 5 senses allow us to justify some beliefs, some senses can be enhanced through instrumentation. Ex. maple trees change colour in the fall. Mount everest is over 29, 000 feet tall. Our 5 senses are fallible, can mislead us.
