Reading Question: Is Euthyphro an absolutist or a relativist?
Absolutism (Objectivism): The view that truth is independent of human opinion and has a
common or universal application. Ed Miller
Related to discovery.
Relativism (Subjectivism): The denial of any absolute or objective truth, and the affirmation
of the individual (person, community, culture) as the source of truth. Ed Miller
Related to invention.
Universal Standard of Judgement Here/Now – The here and now is more closely
connected to and conforms more to the individual.
*Universal = is something one said of many. It is something experienced by everyone;
transcultural (unaffected by culture). It is a standard used to measure human conduct.
