Document Summary
Do corporations have social responsibility lecture 7 (unit 2) In this unit, we will discuss one of the central debates in business ethics, namely, are private corporation"s moral agents and what duties and obligations might they have towards society and public welfare. Def"n of moral agency: is the ability to deliberate about and make moral judgements based on some notion of right and wrong, and to be held accountable for ones" actions. Amoral agent is a being who is capable of acting to reference to right and wrong, and whose actions can be either praiseworthy or blameworthy. A moral agent is responsible for their actions, and can be held accountable for them. A corporation is a collective agent; whose agency is not always easily reducible to any one individual. However, they do seem to meet the criteria for being considered a moral agent (and, indeed, they are treated as such under canadian law)
