So when we can determine that society is treating certain groups inequitably for just reasons, then, according to rawls, we ought to set up social and economic systems which attempt to level the playing field. An individual should not only have an equal right to these opportunities, but should have an effective equal change of securing such positions as another of similar natural ability. The difference principle permits inequalities only if they work to the advantage of the worst-off.
