Irony = eironeia": eironeia means deception for the greeks. 5b-c: euth. just explained what he is doing, talking about the worry of pollution , language of teaching. If he doesn"t prosecute, there"s a worry about this moral pollution. Remember from apology oracle at delphi : says socrates is the most wise, but socrates doesn"t want to admit this. Apology 38a1 has a reputation for being ironic. Republic 337a3-7 oh that"s just the irony in socrates: reputation of socrates to being irony. Something to think about: definition that comes out of this conversations of piety is consistent with plato"s philosophy. Socrates not only disapproves of euth. action but also he doesn"t accept his definitions of piety. Impiety is a reflection on the father: socrates was technically guilty of the charges because of the customs and laws in athens at the time, questioning elders.
