W/ this = questions presence of soul = controversial for religious ppl bc connection w/ god goes away if body looked at as a machine w/ functions that end @ death. Mechanical fountains pipes & valves cause fountains/water/statues to move: hydraulics pushed him to view human body with this perspective.
