Cooordinated contraction of fundal myometrium and lower uterine segment myometrium facilitates labour o o o. Fm: origin of contractility (contracts first), where head resides; Inflammation occurs at fm first since fm has to contract first. Increased levels of il-1 in amniotic fluid and macrophages in the myometrium in labour. For pre-term labour, it"s b/c of a bacterial infection that provides the stimulus for il-1/macrophages. Determining if macrophages in pregnant uterus at term are of fetal origin.
