Document Summary

Cns: central nervous system, made up brain and spinal cord. Pns: peripheral nervous system, made of nerve outside cnsthat go to muscles, organs, etc. Autonomic pns: going to other organs, involved with involuntary movements. Look at other types of cns cells, sensory systems of body, examine how brain controls muscles for movement. Left hemisphere: sends signals to activate muscles on right side. Sensory information from right side of body: sends signals to the left hemisphere. Right hemisphere: sends signals to activate muscle on left side. Sensory information from left side of body sends signals to right hemisphere. Brainstem: controls some most basic functions of body. Cerebellum: mainly responsible for coordianted movement just above the brain stem. Frontal lobe: primary motor cortex:processes input from skeletal muscles. Motor associate area (premotor cortex)/prefrontal cortex: integrate movement information with other sensory inputs. Primary somatosensory cortex: receives input from major sense organs (skin, muscoskeletal system, taste buds)
