Physiology 4200A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Vo2 Max, Exercise Physiology, Anaerobic Respiration
Document Summary
Objectives: understand how the pulmonary system responds during exercise, vo2, vo2 max, anaerobic threshold, ventilation responses, understand injury/stress situations in which pulmonary function is limited, limits exercise, understand the importance of exercise therapy. Exercise physiology o2 utilized and co2 produced. Get o2 in the blood towards the muscles and remove co2. In the cardiac system, the vasculature is increasing our ability to get blood to where it needs to go. Muscle utilization of oxygen is also important. The lung can get oxygen into the blood and remove co2 efficiently. Definition vo2: volume of oxygen that the body utilizes (while breathing room air). Definition vo2 max: maximum volume of oxygen that the body can utilize (while breathing room air). When you exercise, you are going to utilize more oxygen and produce more co2. In this graph, the x axis is the work rate and you have step wise increases and on the y axis, there is the volume of oxygen.
