Traditional: based on long-standing customs and values. Charismatic: personal traits of leader; highly motivating and convincing. Characteristics are what brought them into power (popular) Places authority in hands of the people, rejects elitism. Legal-rational: based on status of office holder relative to constitutional rules. Brought into power by legal laws that select the leaders. No just elections but a social contract that exists between the governed and the governing.
