Document Summary

Karl marx on exploitation, the state, and human nature. Capitalist market: works by exploiting its workers and extracting surplus. Capitalist profit is the value created by workers (how much does it take to hire somebody? as much as it takes to keep them alive i. e. feed them, provide shelter, etc) Conflicts of interest are linked to our relation to the means of production (conflict is not inevitable, everything is related to relations of production, relations to class conflict i. e. conflict theory in soc. ) The states exists to deal with conflicts of interest generated by coercive surplus extraction (basis of conflict is between bourgeoisie/owner and proletariat/worker) States exist to handle conflict of interest which will eventually lead to a revolt/revolution. Revolution is likely in states that fail to integrate their excluded classes. Bismarck"s strategy: buy off the working class and maintain a loyal army (discontent of various forms is prevented) Universal suffrage could lead to the election of a socialist government.
