Election campaigns in canada - will be on exam! Democracy = a system where people are elected: a system where citizens over through the government without bloodshed. Signi cant because it forces con icting political parties to submit to the results of an election. Schumpeter: democracy means free and fair elections, along with that, people need to have freedom expression, and there needs to be freedom of the press, the ability to meet and organize with like minded people. All voting aged citizens have the opportunity to participate in the election, whether it be as a voter or as a candidate. You cannot obstruct individuals from participating in the election: e. g. , sending out miss information, threatening people, coercion. Citizens have to have the ability to exercise these freedoms in-between the elections, not just during the elections.
