What is language: language is a form of communication that uses symbols to represent concepts, words are arbitrary, no inherent reason why certain letters serve as the symbol for an object over other letters. Language"s rule systems: phonology > morphology > syntax > semantics > pragmatics, words can be combined to make phrases which can then become sentences. 2: speech segmentation - refers to our ability to perceive individual words even though there are often no pauses between words, often use top-down processing to determine di erences between similar.
