Document Summary
Psychology notes: january 12, 2017 thinking & problem solving. 5-8 months of age, infants respond to parents words. By 2 and a half years a child moves beyond 2 words, and sentences become complex. The 4 and 5 year old makes mistakes in tense: e. g. runned not ran. C. no models (deaf kids with hearing parents who do not sign) maybe. Kids develop own signs with rudimentary syntax. No propositional thought (cannot construct brand new sentences on their own) Seems unlikely given data on wild and isolated children. Even with innate abilities to learn language, you still need exposure to language to develop it: e. g. What is thought: directed thinking -> given problem, solved out loud. Thought and language are closely related: inner speech . You don"t need to be talking to be thinking. Thought best described in abstract, logical terms: concepts & propositions. Lower order pieces that fall into bigger concepts, that fall into even bigger concepts: goal-directed.
