Document Summary
Our genetic blueprint is inherited from our parents, effects all aspects of our development and behaviour. Each contains a nucleus (except red blood cells) Each contains 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs (1 from each pair from each parent) Contain numerous genes in 2 long twisted strands. Segments of dna that have instructions to make protein (the building blocks of life) *cells --> have nucleus --> with 46 chromosomes --> made up of genes that are segments of dna* If a gene received by either parent is dominant, the trait will be expressed. Trait will not be expressed unless the paired gene from the other parent is also recessive. Brown eyes and dark hair are dominant over blue eyes and blonde hair. Eye colour: mother (brown), father (blue) = child has brown eyes. 2 blue eyed parents cant have a brown eyed kid. Polygenetic effect: numerous genes combine to determine a trait.
