Deception
An act intended to foster a false belief in another → it’s intentional
Ekman and Friesen (1974): notion of leakage nonverbal cues that “escape” attempts to
conceal. → you try to conceal your feelings but they are kinda slip out.
Watch disturbing sense → some are told to express it, some are told to not express it.
Face vs body reaction, some people are shown the example of lying/honesty, some are not.
Ekman suggests that probably you are better in control your facial expressions, which means
that better deception with the face you have to look at the body to point the deception
and if you could know their normal expression when they are honest to be more likely to
point the lie.
Accurate? Average close to 55%
Some people better→ Kraut and Poe (1980) customs officials airport check line, just
40% accuracy, they were unable to point out.
Leach et al (2009) → police & customs officers with children: not a single person is
able to pick out, police and customs are more likely to be confident.
