Document Summary
Neurons do two important things: generate electricity & release chemicals that allow them to communicate with other neurons & with muscles & glands. Sensory neurons: carry input messages from sense organs to spinal cord & brain. Motor neurons: transmit output impulses from the brain & spinal cord to body muscles & organs. Interneurons: link input & output functions perform connective/associative functions within the ns. Central nervous system: consists of all the neurons in the brain & spinal cord. Peripheral nervous system: composed of all the neurons that connect the cns with the muscles, glands & sensory receptors helps carry output/input functions. I. e. respiration, circulation & digestion & it"s also involved in many aspects of motivation, emotional behaviour & stress responses. Autonomic nervous system further divides into 2 systems: sympathetic division, mobilizing the body"s resources for action activation/arousal, hr, bp to pump more blood to your muscles, acts as a unit.
