Document Summary
The concept of personality rests on the fact that people differ in they meaningful ways they customarily think, feel, and act. It also rests on the observation that people seem to behave somewhat consistently over time and across different situations. A personality is the distinctive and relatively enduring ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that characterize a person"s responses to life situations. Thoughts, feelings and actions seem to have three characteristics: They are seen as components of identity that distinguish that person from others. The behaviours are viewed as being caused primarily by internal factors. The person"s behaviours seem to fit together in a meaningful fashion. The different psychological perspectives all have different views on personality. Studying under charcot, freud observed and became convinced that patients with conversion hysteria were repressing painful and traumatic memories. He believed that an unconscious part of the mind greatly influences behaviour.
