Pavio proposes that information is stored in long-term memory in two forms: verval and non verbal using both codes enhances memory because the odds improve that at least one of the codes will be available to support recall. Any strategy used to help in your ability to remember information. Example: chunking, method of loci, acronyms, acrostics. Memory contests: ben pridore - speed memorizing. Memorizes 10 decks of cards and knows the card at each location. Use method of loci - uses a route to remember cards. Hour ability to remember routes is greater than remembering everything. Has a set of symbols/landmark for each card. Method of loci: memory improvement technique to help visualize items, imagine physical environment with sequence of distinct landmarks. Rooms in your house etc: to remember a list of emitters you then take a stroll through that familiar environ- ment and link an item with the location in your environment.
