Document Summary
Maximum response when light falls in the middle. Minimum response when light falls on the surrounding surface. Horizontal cells run between receptor cell and bipolar cells. Hubel and wiesel: in retina ganglion cells, in cortex, response is to slit of light, cortical cells may be orientation specific and motion sensitive, simple cell. Fires to a slit at a particular orientation on a specific retinal location ie) a vertical slit at a particular retinal address would. Moving slits at particular orientation: hypercomplex cell. Only response to specific images ie) square or circle. Bug detectors and grandmother cells (only fires when you have stimulus that resembles your grandmother) Other sensation topics (know these, go through textbook) Theories of colour vision: trichromatic, opponent process. Hearing: parts of the ear, place theory versus frequency theory, hearing loss. General operation of taste, smell and touch.
