Document Summary

Both, interaction between the two, how much is due to each one. 23 pairs of chromosomes: 22 autosomes, sex chromosomes determine sex of individuals (xx, xy) Genes (dna) rna protein molecules (sequence of amino acids) The influence of genes is through protein synthesis there are no genes for a particular attribute. Environment can influence protein synthesis as well. Genes determine range of possibilities, but not degree of expression. Environmental exposure at specific interval is critical. E. g white crowned sparrow must hear adult between 7th and 60th day. Phenotype: outward expression of genotype (characteristics, behaviours, ect) Can not infer genotype for phenotype, can infer phenotype from genotype. Outward characteristics may not indicate underlying genetic contribution: hair colour. Homozygous alleles: the same: phenotypic outcome predictable. Produces effect in either homozygous or heterozygous mode: recessive. Eg sickle cell anemia heterozygous yields both. Traits related to action of more than 1 gene or chromosome.
