His theory emphasizes one of the rst treatments of psychological disorders. Freud was never trained as a psychologist, he was trained as a medical doctor specializing in neurology. He dealt with patients who suffered with hysteria (symptoms of hysteria are unusual, no physical basis for the symptoms) E. g. ) glove anesthesia (or glove paralysis), patient loses all feeling in hand from wrist down.
