Social groups can be: religious, geographical, friend group, family etc. Within the group there is a definitive set of values about food, what we think about food and eating behaviour in general. Belonging to a social group means that you share these values and beliefs: repercussions can occur due to lecturing from other people. Makes you feel guilty: create social pressures to conform. Eating is such a social act so you want to feel like you belong: what to eat and how much are often represented within a social group by food ideologies. A system of ideas, beliefs, values and principles of action that mediate how we think about and behave toward food.
