Different ways of knowing: there are non-scienti c methods and scienti c methods, main difference between them is that science is self-correcting , information that is acquired through scienti c process can be falsi ed if the information is incorrect. We accept as fact statements that have been made repeatedly over an extended period of time. Continuing to believe something that is true, it becomes true. We can accept as true statements made by people in positions of authority or sources we consider to be never wrong. Problem is it is not absolute, it depends on both the authority and the acceptance of the authority by the believer. Since not all people accept the same authority, disagreements on the truth. Also known as priori method, refers to knowledge developed through the process of reasoning, independent from observation. Begins with assumptions and uses these to derive new statements or truths.
