Saw a friend crying in front of a television watching a movie; two obvious possibilities (attributions) Your friend is a sentimental person who cries easily at movies (internal attribution) Proposed that we think back over all our relevant observations and try to figure out whether the behaviour was associated with a particular person, with a particular situation, or a combination. Labelle this theory as covariation model of attribution: Example: if you did not cry during the movie, you may think your friend is very sentimental if they cried. If you did cry at the end, then you would probably decide that your friend cried because the movie is sad.
