Self-recognition in humans develops between 18-24 months of age, as we grow older self-concept becomes more complex. Self schemas: an organized body of knowledge about ourselves, our attiudes, our likes, our dislikes , our personality traits, and so on. Eg. sarah plays a lot of sports and is an important part of her self schema, she is likely to think about and remember the volleyball game more than the movie. Our schemas also bias memory processes, our desire to see ourselves in a positive light can influence which of our past actions we are most likely to remember.
