Involves the feelings we have about ourselves. Domain speci c- self esteem goes up or down in reference to speci c things. The most widely used measure is the rosenberg self esteem scale. Researchers believe that self-reports are honest reliable and genuine. When people do have control over their answers, there is two possible issues. People may not be willing to report their honest opinion. People may not be able to predict themselves. Low self esteem is causing problems in society. Research in this area suggest that there are bene ts to having self esteem\ High self esteem does not cause improvement in academic performance. It may be a reverse; people hive high self esteem because they do well. Social- when you look at the person"s ratings of how much other people like them, vs. their peer ratings, the peer ratings are lower. Happiness and depression- high self esteem is correlated with happiness.
