Document Summary
Preventing sexual violence and sexual harassment on campus. Upstander: play on words, people that do get involved with helping others in need. You do not act unless you see others acting, you follow what other people do. The more people that are around, the less likely people are to act. 10% of people that will always help, 10% of people will never help, 80% of the bystander effect. Program is assisting people to develop skills to be active and engaged upstanders. Upstanders: notice and identify the problem, feel motivated and capable to find a solution, possess skills for action, and act. Bystander programs are one of the strongest ways to prevent sexual assault. While onus is on the perpetrator to stop the act, we must also enact as bystanders, working to stop sexual violence. Victim was unable to provide consent due to intoxication. When consent is not present, it"s not sex; it"s sexual assault.
