Overview: dysphoria a state of prolonged bouts of sadness, kids with this feel little joy in anything they do, lose interest in all activities, and this state is called anhedonia. They weeped, withdrew, lost weight, and had trouble sleeping: similar symptoms can also occur in noninstitutionalized infants raised in severely disturbed families, where the mother is depressed or physically abusive, insecurely attached etc. A syndrome is a group of symptoms that occur together more often than by chance. So depression as a syndrome must include other symptoms beside sadness, e. g. reduced interest in activities, cognitive and motivational changes, and physical changes. Depression as a syndrome often includes a mixture of anxiety and depression symptoms, and is far less common than depression as a single symptom: as a disorder, depression can come in 2 types.
