Document Summary
Aggression: any form of behaviour that is intended to injure someone physically or psychologically. It is aimed at hurting (not playing or being assertive): relational aggression: attempt to hurt another without obvious face-to-face conflict. Women engage in it more than men: hostile aggression: hurtful behaviour that stems from angry feelings. For example, yelling insults, a child throwing a temper tantrum, or throwing punches. o. Instrumental aggression: hurting someone to accomplish another non- aggressive goal. For example, a parent who spanks their young child for stealing candy from a store. The non-aggressive goal is to teach them a lesson, that stealing is wrong. Violence: aggression that is intended to cause extreme injury. Frustration and aggression hypothesis: argued that aggression was always a consequence of frustration. Frustration broadly defined as the blocking of efforts to obtain a goal. Frustration always leads to some form of aggression. Frustration is the only cause of aggression. o o.
