Psych 2720 chapter 1: social psychology: the scientific study of the way in which people"s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by the real or imagined presence of other people. What is social psychology: simpler version: the science of human social behaviour. Any situation that involves other people (even imagined or implied), qualifies for inclusion: this field has an enormous range of possible topics. This makes it fascinating to study but also can be a challenge as there is so much material: social psych is a science based in theories and ideas on empirical evidence. Psychologists develop specific hypotheses and predication about human social behaviour and test them empirically: social psychologists study the same issues as some other fields (sociology, personality psychology, etc. ) but their perspective is unique. They focuses on processes within the individual that influence behaviour in settings where other people are present/imagined.
