Document Summary

Measurement of prejudice: one clever way researchers have developed to measure this implicit prejudice is the implicit association test. Individual stereotypes are an individual"s beliefs about the characteristics of a group; these beliefs may or may not be shared in common with others. Prejudice has a more general quality to it and, indeed, psychologists define prejudice as an overall evaluation or attitude toward a group: can be positive or negative. Discrimination has been defined as the biased treatment of an individual based on that individual"s group membership. We see the world in comparative terms: that is, we are always making comparisons between ourselves and others, and of particular relevance to understanding prejudice, we make comparisons between our own group(s) and other groups. Right wing authoritarianism: rwa is a trait that is defined in terms of authoritarian submission, authoritarian aggression, and conventionalism, those who are high in this trait tend to be more prejudiced.
