Psychology 2820E Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Coin Flipping, Woen, Test Statistic
Document Summary
Identification of the rejection region: we are trying to decide whether to reject ho, we must identify a set of outcomes that would lead us to reach this decision. This set of outcomes is called the rejection region. E. g. trying to decide if a coin is fair, or if the coin is biased in favor of heads. If alpha is set to . 05 this means that the probability of rejecting ho, even when ho is really true, is . 05; alpha determines the rejection region. Step 4: calculation of the obtained value of the test statistic. In step two you will have identified some formula to be used in the hypothesis test. In this step, you substitute the appropriate numerical values into that formula to get what is called the obtained value of the test statistic. A comparison is made between the value obtained in step four and the rejection region identified in step three.
