Pollution, failure to conserve energy resources, over fishing, deforestation, etc. All of these problems are caused by people. The prisoners dilemma - a two person dilemma: 2 men are arrested for armed robbery: max penalty is 20 years in prison. Prosecutor needs a confession to convict o. Prisoners are separated and each is offered a choice. Consequences of their decision depends on what the other prisoner does. Fear: that the other person will take advantage of us if we cooperate. Greed: desire to take advantage of other player to maximize out personal outcomes. Players realize that mutual competition is not a good strategy o. Tit-for-tat strategy emerges: choose what the other player chose on the previous trial. Compete if the other competed, cooperate if the other cooperated. Shows that you"re willing to cooperate, but you will compete if necessary.
