Many jewish communities don"t believe in marrying outside of your culture. You may convert at any time but must be told the harsh times of the jewish history and you have to convince them that you are worthy of converting. The nomadic tribe travelled to egypt and asked the rulers if they are able to stay there to hide from the environmental factors. They used egypt as an escape and many nomadic tribes went to egypt because of the rich nile river. The jewish people became slaves to the egyptians.
