Extreme shiiat people curse the first three caliphs- claim that they weren"t ruling after prophet. Medina and mecca are very far from central areas- caliphs were trying to keep up and were considered local rulers. They tried to spread the religion but it was hard for them to. They were sunnis- they believed that the guides should be elected and should be the most trustworthy people in the community. They also believed that the life of the ruler should be monitored.
