Gender differences do not always move in the direction common sense would have us believe. Today women are seen as emotional" experts relative to men but this was not always the case. Historically, men"s friendships were celebrated as the highest expression of noble virtue. Women"s feelings rarely rise to genuine friendship: mary wollstonecraft: believed that men were more apt to friendships than women, and that women weren"t looking to engage in relationships with others. It was thought that women would rather gossip, engage in much more domestic activities, etc.
