Homogamy- people marry those like themselves (religion, ethnicity, educaion) Heterogamy- married people are dissimilar in an important way. Descent can be tracked through both side (bilateral) or matrilineal or patrilineal. Families are sets of inimate social relaionships that people create to share resources to ensure their welfare and that of their dependents. Blended families are two or more parents and the child or children from their former marriages or inimate unions. A socially approved, presumably long-term sexual and economic relaionship between a man and a woman involving reciprocal rights and obligaions between spouses and between parents and children: proves to be a strict deiniion, excluding non-tradiional couples. Social reproducion is the physical, emoional, and mental work if caring for others. Material and emoional security: society depends on families, these funcions stabilize the society. Racial and ethnic inequality: family plays a role in social straiicaion.
