What makes people obey morals and avoid doing bad things without noticing morals. Self-interest (ex. coming to class on time) & avoiding punishment (speeding) are beginning stages pre-conventional. Good boy attitude:enjoy looking good int he eyes of others (social conscience) Law and order: belief in laws and need for laws (ex. stealing) Social contract: you give up certain rights (ex. give some privacy to gov. ) for the bene t of protection from others bill c-51 (canadian laws around privacy) Principle: do something for higher purpose because you think it is unjust or immoral knowing that the effects may be negative for you(ex. Majority of people do not reach higher level of morality (green/yellow max. ) Weakness: model may not apply to all societies, people may never reach post conventional stage. Girls develop a car and responsibility perspective. This theory sharpens our understanding of both human development and gender issues in research. By taking the role of the other, we become self-aware.
