What are the cultural attitudes that immigrants/minority groups bring to canada: must be able to specify what canadian values are. Culture is a way of life of a people redfield. 2 divisions: popular culture not the totality of culture (only a small part). To become inculturated, you must learn how to be canadian, cannot resist it. Canadian: second generation blend in seamlessly, children of the other ethnic groups do not blend in as seamlessly. First attribute to be lost is language. Practice of endogamy (the practice of marrying within your cultural group) Wants to distance themselves from grandparents, because modern culture does not like those traditional ways. Seek to separate audiences (parents vs. friends: third generation reject ethnic group all together, cut yourself off completely. Without social order, social living is not possible. Iq tests measure mental abilities, results said to predict future success academically.
