Advertising and the other : people from minority groups, older adults, people with disabilities, overweight individuals, gays and lesbians. Invisible knapsack of privilege certain people in society that don"t know they have this privilege. Things like passports, visas, etc. they don"t have to think about the problems related to traveling somewhere because they have never had issues. White, male, 25-55 years old, middle to upper class, educated, heterosexual, able bodied, slim. People that have these characteristics don"t have to think about if they"re going to be excluded because they have never had to experience it. This is reflected in our society and in advertising. Stereotypes: they perpetuate ideas which people end up fulfilling through the labeling prophecy and the self-fulfilling prophecy, the blue eyed, brown eyed study: Teacher told the students that the brown eyed kids were not as smart as the blue eyed children. They were not allowed to play with the blue eyed kids.
