Wide historical and cultural variaion in what is recognized as illness. If illness was a natural thing, it wouldn"t be changing over ime and it wouldn"t be diferent around the world, so to some extent it is socially constructed. Addicions, gay, grieving process is now medicalized, giving birth to a baby, masturbaing. Viewing illness as a social construcion directly conlicts with a medical model approach to illness. A medical model approach to illness contends that illness relects an objecive label; that illness is not morally laden and is apoliical (not poliical)
