Bioethics: the study of the moral and ethical dilemmas that scienists and doctors encounter in medical research and in the treatment of paients. Doctors in canada have had a code of ethics since 1868. This does not mean that doctors have always expressed or understood ethics in the same way that it is understood today. Indeed, many things that doctors have done historically, even in the name of helping their paients, might horrify us today.
