Over a lifeime, we will take on new roles (becoming a spouse) and shed unnecessary roles (reirement from the paid workforce) In this chapter, we will examine how health is related to roles associated with work and family life. Stress process: health-related consequences of transiions in and out of work and family roles that are experienced as stressful, health efects of role strain- problems individuals experience within their major social roles as workers and family members.
