Document Summary
Last normal lecture, next week is just qs. Threats to internal validity: historicism, things happen between time 1 and time 2 that we have no control over, maturation, people change over time. Sensitization: become sensitized to topic, know what the research is about, measurement decay, things wear out, the meanings of words change, things change between time one and time two. Is the sample representative of the entire population. Subject mortality: subjects dropout (sometimes die but not usually, those who are exposed to more things, are usually the ones more likely to dropout. Solomon: created 2 more groups: experimental 2 and control 2, that do not get pre-tested (so lesser threat to internal validity, the final thing you can do is measure all of those things through solomon 4 group design. Natural experiments: one researched, coldevin, was able to take advantage of a unique opportunity to study the impact of the introduction of tv into a canadian inuit community.
