Identify and define three types of crime prevention. Describe situational crime prevention (scp), including its background and focus. Identify the features of places and importance of place managers in preventing crime. 2 assumptions: crime is a choice, crime is concentrated (in places, people, etc. ) Theories stemming from assumptions: routine activities theory, crime pattern theory, crime prevention through environmental design. The power of opportunity: primary prevention changing social and situational factors stopping the crime problem before it even happens targets a population than just one individual ex: welfare, secondary prevention already at high risk of crime fall. Types of crime prevention: neighborhoods where crime rates are high, and you want to target them, middle school and age view ex: includes afterschool programs for youth, tertiary prevention prevents criminal recurrent ex: outpatient treatment programs. Instead of attempting to make sweeping changes in an entire community or neighborhood, situational prevention is aimed at: specific problems, places, people, times.
